How Much Does a Texas Life & Health Insurance License Cost in 2026?

The published exam and resident application charges total $99. Fingerprinting, optional preparation and another examination attempt are separate. Texas does not require a general prelicensing course on the standard permanent resident route.

Avoid paying the application fee twice

TDI instructs standard resident applicants to pass the examination before applying. Filing too early requires a new application and another fee after the exam is passed.

Begin the fingerprint process through TDI's portal, then apply through Sircon or NIPR within one year of passing. If the one-year window expires, the exam must be retaken.

03

Every failed attempt adds another $49

Texas allows a failed candidate to schedule another examination within one calendar day and does not publish an attempt limit for the same exam. Availability still controls the appointment date.

The absence of an attempt limit is not a reason to guess repeatedly. In 2025, repeat English LAH attempts had a higher non-pass rate than first attempts.

Preparation cost should buy depth

CertiAcademy provides more than 1,300 English and Spanish learning questions, including 500 for Texas statutes and rules, detailed explanations, scheduled wrong-answer review and a 145-question simulation within 150 minutes.

The free 30-question diagnostic demonstrates the method before purchase. Package prices are separate from state fees, shown before checkout and do not renew automatically.
